Moravian Cookies Recipe

A few years ago, I used to make the same cookies every night for dinner. If I didn’t bake them right then, I’d bake them in the morning when I woke up. Ingredients

  • Sugar, 1/2 Cups
  • Baking Soda, 1/2 Tsp
  • Salt to Taste, 1/2 Tsp
  • Ginger Paste, 1 Tsp
  • Minced Garlic, 2 Cloves
  • Unsalted Butter (Any Choice), 2 Sticks
  • Cinnamon, 1/2 Tsp
  • White Vinegar (Any Choice), 1/2 Cups
  • Molasses, 1/2 Cups
  • Shortening, 1/2 Cups
  • All-Purpose Flour, 3 Cups

Instructions

Step 1:

We need to prepare the cookie dough first. Pour flour and sugar into a bowl. Stir the ingredients thoroughly with a hand mixer or a stirrer. Add salt to the doughy mixture while whisking to give it a flavorful taste.

Step 2:

Pour molasses and shortening into another bowl. Stir the ingredients together with a spoon and place it on a very low heat. Release the butter sticks into the bowl and stir until the butter is melted.

Step 3:

The flour mixture should be poured into the mixture once it has thickened. Add baking soda to the mixture to make it fluffy.

Add the ginger to the ingredients after they have been whisked for a few minutes under medium speed with a hand mixer. It will give your old Salem cookies a savory ginger flavor.

Step 4:

Once the dough is smooth and soft, place it on a greased baking sheet. Place the dough in the refrigerator overnight, covered with a cloth. This will make the dough firm and will enhance its buttery flavor.

Step 5:

Take out the baking tray the next day and place the dough on a floured baking sheet. Slice it into thin slices by making desired shapes. A strong gingery and buttery fragrance will be produced along with a crispy layer.

Step 6:

Prepare the thin cookie and place it on a baking tray. Then, place the tray for 20 minutes at 220 degrees under a preheated oven. Keep an eye on the upper layer to prevent it from overcooking.

Finally, when the outer layer of the cookies is browned, remove the baking tray and allow it to cool for a while. Afterward, you can enjoy your mouth-watering paper-thin sugar cookies.
