Ingredients

  • Crisco Vegetable Shortening, 1 cup 
  • Sugar, 1 cup 
  • Water berry juice (or 2 cups loose snow), 1/2 cup 
  • Mixed berries, 4 cups 

Instructions

Step 1

Crisco should be cut into small pieces and added to a pot over low heat. Stir continuously until melted. Mixtures should never be allowed to reach higher temperatures than are comfortable for your hand.

Step 2

Once the Crisco is melted, gradually add the sugar while stirring. Stir constantly until all the sugar has dissolved.

Step 3

After the mixture has become completely liquid, remove the pot from heat, but keep stirring. Mix 1/4 cup of water (or 1 cup of snow) into the mixture. As the mixture cools, it will become more fluffy and white. Add the remaining 1/4 cup of water (or 1 cup of snow).

Step 4

Fold in the berries when the mixture is as fluffy and white as it can be. You can either shape your container into the desired shape or place it in a container in a freezer to firm up.

Step 5

Before serving, let sit for one hour.
