Ingredients
  

For the cake:

  • 1 cup  Unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 1/2 cups  Granulated sugar
  • Large eggs
  • 2 1/4 cups  Cake flour
  • 1 tablespoon  Baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon  Baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon  Salt
  • 1 cup Buttermilk  
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract

For the glaze:

  • 1/2 cup  Unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup Granulated sugar  
  • 1/4 cup  Water
  • 1 tablespoon  Vanilla extract

Instructions
 

  • Preheat the oven to 325°F (160°C) and grease a 9-inch round pan.
  • Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy in a big bowl.
  • Add eggs one by one, and mix well after each.
  • Sift flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in another bowl.
  • Gradually mix dry stuff with buttermilk and vanilla extract.
  • Pour batter into pan, and bake for 45-50 mins, toothpick should come clean.
  • For the glaze, cook butter, sugar, water, and vanilla until thickened.
  • After baking, cool in a pan for 5 mins, then on a rack.
  • Pour glaze on the cooled cake, and let it flow.
  • Slice and savour your homemade Gigi's Butter Cake. Enjoy!

Notes

  • Keep butter and eggs out before mixing.
  • Put dry stuff in gently for a soft cake.
  • Watch your cake – a golden top is good!
