Ingredients
  

  • 1 pound Chicken of the Woods mushrooms cleaned and cut into thick strips
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 eggs whisked
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions
 

  • Prep the Mushrooms: Start by thoroughly cleaning the Chicken of the Woods mushrooms. Slice them into hearty strips, about 1/2 inch thick.
  • Set Up Your Breading Station: Arrange three bowls: one with flour, one with whisked eggs, and one with breadcrumbs. Mix the salt, pepper, smoked paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder into the flour.
  • Bread the Mushrooms: Coat each mushroom strip in the seasoned flour, then dip it into the eggs, and finally, roll it in the breadcrumbs until fully covered. Repeat for all strips.
  • Heat the Oil: Pour vegetable oil into a large skillet, about 1/2 inch deep, and heat over medium-high heat.
  • Fry to Perfection: Once the oil is hot, carefully place the breaded mushroom strips into the skillet. Fry them until they are golden brown and crispy, approximately 3-4 minutes per side. Avoid overcrowding the skillet to ensure even frying.
  • Drain and Enjoy: Transfer the fried mushrooms to a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess oil. Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce.
